Finding out about water pollution 1.4.2

Finding out about water pollution 1.4

(2) Illustrations on different water pollution sources

As was mentioned in the previous note, water pollution has various of causes, each cause leads the extent of the water pollution to different measures. Hopefully by using illustrations, it will be easier for students to visualize and memorize the causes and the relative consequences.

Sewage

Oil pollution

Photo: Oil-tanker spills are the most spectacular forms of pollution and the ones that catch public attention, but only a fraction of all water pollution happens this way. Photo courtesy of US Fish & Wildlife Service Photo Library.

Other forms of pollution:

To sum up

Life is ultimately about choices—and so is pollution. We can live with sewage-strewn beaches, dead rivers, and fish that are too poisonous to eat. Or we can work together to keep the environment clean so the plants, animals, and people who depend on it remain healthy. We can take individual action to help reduce water pollution, for example, by using environmentally friendly detergents, not pouring oil down drains, reducing pesticides, and so on. We can take community action too, by helping out on beach cleans or litter picks to keep our rivers and seas that little bit cleaner. And we can take action as countries and continents to pass laws that will make pollution harder and the world less polluted. Working together, we can make pollution less of a problem—and the world a better place.

  1. Hey Elaine , I read all your blog posts, they are well organized, so it was very easy to follow!

The chemical waste part was interesting because there were actual chemical substances (such as PCBs). I didn't know water could be polluted from plastics. (Pictures were very helpful too !)

It seems like all members of our group are searching the problems of water pollution, but we are not finding any pragmatic solution towards this issue.

Maybe each of us can review peer's article and come up with a solution?? Because the whole point of this project is to analyze the problem and suggest possible solutions to improve our environment

    Best Regards

    1. i really appreciate your advices!
Pragmatic solutions are necessary to be discussed and studied on, i will do more researches later on and post something with the solution or the idea of resolving the problem s that are caused by water pollution.

Do you have any idea about how to branch out the solutions of water pollution at this point? Maybe each of us can focus on one aspect of the problem (for example water pollution that are caused by chemical products)and find out the relative solution on the specific matter,in this way solutions can be more diverse and more focused on the problem itself. What do you think?

      Fine regards

  2. I agree wholely with what Daniel has written, we have all found problems but as a group we need to try and come up with a solution and I feel one of the first ways to address this are by taking care of the problems outlined in this article. Do you have any ideas as to what we could do?

    1. We can focus on different types of water pollution that are caused by different reasons. In order to obtain a more specific solution, i suggest we can focus on the solutions that are relative to one type of water pollution (or two types of water pollution)respectively.

However, many causes are inter-connected or closely related, we can later combine the solutions we've collected after we've done our researches, then compose a complete resolution of water pollution, in order to make the solutions - to be more pragmatic and effective.
